The Chairman of Bauchi State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Engineer Mohammed Barde, has slammed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies for not exposing and arresting those who allegedly engaged in vote buying during last Saturday’s senatorial bye-election in the state.
Barde also claimed that the All Progressives Congress, APC’s desperation for power was tilting towards scuttling Nigeria’s democracy and must be stopped.
The party chairman said this in exclusive interview with DAILY POST in Bauchi on Thursday, adding that what happened during the bye-election last Saturday was not an election.
He further condemned the outcome of the bye-election result in totality and described it as a move to rob Nigerians of their right to vote come 2019.
He said, “Honestly, Nigerians should be careful to resist all attempts in repeating the so-called election in Ekiti and the Bauchi state bye-election because we have credible evidence where APC agents and government officials were buying votes under security watch which contravenes the Electoral Law.”
He accused INEC of allegedly conniving with security agencies to massively disenfranchise thousands of voters deliberately to favour their sponsors.
He added, “What happened if not curbed is an indication that INEC cannot conduct credible election in 2019 because it’s clear that the commission is a theatre for rigging and answering APC’s dictate.”
The NNPP Chairman, however, maintained that his party was not perturbed and will not succumb to any external intimidation to allow rigging of election, pointing out that the party was popular and will be accepted by Nigerians in 2019.
He cautioned the ruling party to hide its desperation for power and respect the electoral process.
