The Bauchi State House of Assembly has directed the Head of Service (HOS) and the Accountant General (AG) of the state to appear before it on Wednesday, 4 July, 2018.
The resolution followed a motion moved on the floor of the House by Honorable Maryam Bagel, representing Dass Constituency following deductions from workers salaries in the state.
“Why should a sitting Head of Service come out to declare that the deductions made from salaries were of illegal allowances with his experience in the civil service,” Bagel queried.
“The Head of Service is telling us that all the years he had served as civil servant, he has been approving such illegal allowances knowingly,” added Bagel.
The female lawmaker further expressed concern over transfer of salary payment from the office of the Accountant General to the office of the HOS.
She, therefore, called on the lawmakers to invite the Head of Service to explain the reasons for the sudden salary deductions from wages of civil servants.
She urged her colleagues to invite the Accountant General of the state to explain his role in transferring the function of his office to the office of the Head Of Service.
The lawmaker further called on the House to mandate the executive to make available to the House the report of all verification exercises conducted in the state as well as the report of the transition committee.
Bagel had called for the formation of a special committee that will study the report and get back to the House for further action.
The House consequently agreed that both officers be made to appear before it, latest July 4, 2018.
