Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has once again stated that they will not allow Neymar play at both the Copa America and Olympics for Brazil this summer.
Neymar, who is Brazil’s national captain, might feature at both the Copa America Centenario in the United States from June 3-26 and then also in the Olympics on home soil from August 3-20.
Barca are worried that it would make it hard for the forward to rest in the off season and prepare well for the 2016/2017 season.
“We have sent a letter to the CBF [Brazil Football Confederation] in which we have said that the player should rest for the good of both Barca and his national team and we have made a proposal,” Bartomeu told reporters on Friday.
“We understand that the player wants to play in everything, but we are asking them to place value on the idea that the player compete in just one event. We would prefer that to be the Olympics. Whether or not we will prohibit him from both, that remains to be seen. First we will talk about it. But if we have to impose something, we will impose it.”
Brazil’s football confederation has said it “will do everything possible” to have Neymar at both tournaments.
