Argentine captain, Lionel Messi has made history after the Catalan giants beat Sevilla to lift the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday.

Messi becomes Barcelona’s most-decorated player of all time after the 2-1 victory.

The Argentine international has now won a staggering 33 trophies for Barcelona – one more than Andres Iniesta who won 32.

Iniesta left the club at the end of last season to join Japanese side Vissel Kobe.

The win against Sevilla in Morocco was Messi’s eighth victory in the Spanish Super Cup since he made his debut.

Messi, 31, has also won nine La Liga titles, the Champions League four times, the Club World Cup on three occasions and the Copa del Rey six times.

Pablo Sarabia opened scoring for Sevilla in the 9th minute but two goals from Gerard Pique and Ousmane Dembele each half, ensured that the La Liga Champions came from behind to lift their first trophy of the season.
