Real Madrid will head into the second leg of this year’s Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona with a two-goal advantage, after they won 3-1 in the first leg played on Sunday night.
Gerard Pique’s own goal gave the visitors the lead. Marcelo made a good overlapping run to receive Isco’s pass and drove in a dangerous low cross, which went in via the Barca defender.
Lionel Messi levelled in the 77th minute from the penalty spot, after the referee adjudged that Luis Suarez was fouled inside the box by Keylor Navas.
However, Zinedine Zidane’s men made it 2-1, after substitute Cristiano Ronaldo finished off a neat counter-attack. He was shown a yellow card for ripping out his shirt to celebrate the goal and then sent off for diving few moments later.
It was Real that scored the next goal, as Marco Asensio smashed a rising left-footed shot past Ter Stegen at the near post, making them the favourites to win the trophy.
The second leg will be played next Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabeu.
