Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick, as Barcelona beat Leganes 3-1 at Nou Camp on Saturday night.

The win saw Barca equal the record longest unbeaten run in LaLiga history and make it 38 league games without defeat.

Luis Suarez missed two opportunities to open scoring, before Messi curled home a trademark free-kick to make it 1-0. He doubled his side’s lead, latching onto Phillipe Coutinho’s through ball and firing low into the corner.

The home side eased off in the second half and allowed former Liverpool winger, Nabil El Zhar, to pull one back.

But Messi made the points safe, running onto Ousmane Dembele’s ball and lifting it over goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar.

Barca have now stretched their lead at the top of the table to 12 points, ahead of second-placed Atletico Madrid who take on Real Madrid on Sunday.

Ernesto Valverde’s side are also seven matches from becoming the first LaLiga side to go through a campaign without tasting defeat.
