Barcelona’s injury woes compounded ahead of this weekend’s El Clasico

Barcelona are battling to put forward their preferred starting 11, when they welcome Real Madrid this weekend, in a keenly awaited El Clasico.

The La Liga champions need to end Madrid’s 31-game unbeaten run at the Nou Camp, after falling six points behind their biggest rivals, who currently top the league.

Left-back Jordi Alba finished Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Real Sociedad, despite picking up an injury before half-time.

“The tests carried out this morning reveal that Jordi Alba has heavy bruising on his right knee and a strain of his left ankle,” Barca said in a statement.

“How he evolves will determine his availability for the next few games.”

Lucas Digne, who arrived at the club last summer, will be called upon if Alba does not recover on time.

Barcelona are also waiting for news on defender Samuel Umtiti and captain Andres Iniesta.
