Barcelona reveal transfer fee Liverpool wanted for Coutinho

Barcelona director, Albert Soler, has revealed that Liverpool were demanding €200million (£183m) for Philippe Coutinho.

The La Liga giants were desperate to bring in the Brazil playmaker this summer and saw several offers turned down by the Anfield club.

At a press conference on Saturday, Soler says the club refused to pursue a deal, because they didn’t want to “get caught up in such an inflated market”.

He said: “After weeks of offers, yesterday Liverpool wanted €200million for one player. We won’t put the club at risk.

“We don’t want to get caught up in such an inflated market. Normally it’s traditional clubs that are big actors. Not right now.”

Coutinho will remain at Liverpool for the 2017/2018, but speculations are that Barcelona will make an effort to sign the 25-year-old next year.
