Gerard Pique has claimed that neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid would be able to win the English Premier League, because of its physical demands.
The Spain defender, spent four years with Manchester United between 2004 and 2008, making 23 appearances for the Old Trafford club.
Pique returned to Barcelona in 2008 and has since won five La Liga titles.
But the 28-year-old feels it would be harder for the top two Spanish sides to win the league in England.
“I think that if Barcelona or Real Madrid goes to the Premier League then the first year of playing there, there is no chance of winning it,” he told the Daily Telegraph.
“Yes, I think so, because if you go to Stoke, or other types of teams, then, it will be really tough.
“It’s a debate – we could spend hours on it. If Manchester United or Chelsea go to Spain, then the same. No chance to win the league.”
