The new head of the Roman Catholic denomination, Pope Francis I, has been invited by Barcelona’s president, Sandro Rosell, to come and watch a game at Camp Nou.
The Argentine spiritual leader, is however an ardent supporter of his hometown club, San Lorenzo, but is being wooed by several top European clubs, ever since he was appointed to replace Pope Benedict.
However, two of his countrymen, Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano, both play for the Spanish giants and Rosell has thrown that in.
“As president of Barcelona it is an honour to share with you more than football as our common interest, as the matching colours of our teams are more than evident,” he said in a letter published in El Mundo Deportivo.
“I would welcome you to attend to watch a match from the box at Camp Nou and enjoy our players, mainly your fellow compatriots Messi and Mascherano, who have supported this greeting by their signature on this letter.”
