Barcelona have confirmed that they have accepted Atletico Madrid’s bid for their striker David Villa.
The deal will be completed after Villa undergoes a medical with the former Europa Cup holders and agrees personal terms. The Spain international will then move to the Vicente Calderon for an initial £4.4 million, with £2.6m to be paid if Villa remains an Atletico player during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. Barca will also retain 50% from any future move involving the 31-year-old.
Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspurs, were favourites to land the former Valencia man, but it now appears Atletico has stolen a march on Andre Villas-Boas side, as they seek to replace Radamel Falcao, who they sold to Monaco in May.
