Bank PHB: Nigerians react to FG plans to probe Atiku on return from US

The Nigerian government has come under attack over plans to probe the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar over alleged fraud after his visit to the US.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had said Abubakar would be investigated over his alleged role in the collapse of former Bank PHB.

Speaking with State House Correspondents at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Mohammed disclosed that Atiku would be questioned when he returns from the United States, US.

Atiku visited the US for the first time in 13 years on Thursday, despite APC allegations that the former Vice President was running away from investigations by the US authorities.

Federal government’s plan to take Atiku to court over collapse of Bank PHB has stirred reactions from Nigerians online.

Some Nigerians accused the ruling party of being ‘desperate’ for bringing up such accusations against Atiku ahead of 2019 election.

Others queried why the case against Atiku was not brought up earlier before his trip to US and while he was a member of APC.

Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST from Twitter:

@Bhadoosky “All this while Atiku has been in Nigeria why didn’t the government raise the N156 million Bank PHB allegation before he traveled to the U.S.A? Now you wonder why people think this administration is a joke.”
