Security officials in Bama town, Bama local government area of Borno state have said that the people were not ready to assists them in tackling issues of insecurity in the area.
DSP Eko Law, the Divisional Police Officer in Bama area command who was attacked recently by gunmen suspected to be members of the Islamic militant, Boko Haram informed Governor Shettima during his visit to Bama on Monday.
Eko said the gunmen who were six in number were waiting for them when to arrive at a shop in the area. However, the residents who were already aware of their presence did not inform the security about the presence of the gunmen, who immediately took cover in the midst of the traders to carry out their evil plans.
He said upon arrival at the said shop, the gunmen opened fire at them, killing two of his officers.
According to him, he managed to escape unnoticed because the gunmen could not recognise him as he was on mufti.
Also the Field Commander of the Joint Task Force in Bama, Lt Col. A.G. Laka informed Governor Shettima that, he lost a soldier, while four of his men were wounded, yet they succeeded in killing 10 insurgents.
According to him, they realised that, some of the houses burnt were as a result of the IEDs stored in those houses by the insurgents.
“Most of the houses were thatched roof and our bullets are such that goes out red coal, but notwithstanding during the encounter there were explosions from the houses which certainly is believed to have been stored by the sects.” He explained.
