Adamawa House of Assembly has directed the state Commissioner for Finance to appear before it on Wednesday to brief it on the utilisation of the state’s N7.2 billion bailout fund.
The directive followed a resolution of the state House of Assembly on Tuesday.
The resolution, which came under “Matters of Urgent Public Importance”, was raised by Alhaji Abubakar Abdulrahman (APC-Mubi South)
Abdulrahman, who is the House Committee Chairman on Appropriation, Budget and Finance, said that the ministry had not responded to earlier resolution passed last week that the ministry should furnish it with the details of the disbursement of the fund.
“The Governor should direct the commissioner to come and explain the disbursement to the House within 24 hours,” Abdulrahman said.
Other members, who contributed during the plenary included Mallam Abubakar Atiku (APC-Uba/Gaya) and Mallam Aminu Aliyu (APC-Song) who declared support to summon the Commissioner.
“APC represents change and we need to take action that will bring change the operations of government by ensuring accountability,” Atiku said.
Speaking after the motion was passed unanimously in a voice vote, the Speaker, Alhaji Kabiru Mijinyawa, directed the clerk to communicate to the Commissioner to appear before the House on Wednesday by 10.00 a.m.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the House at the plenary also received verbal report on alleged harassment of a lawmaker, Mallam Isa Yahaya (APC-Maiha) by the Commissioner for Rural Development, Mallam Hassan Umaru.
The Majority Leader of the House, Alhaji Musa Mahmood (APC-Mayo-Belwa), who presented the report, said the Commissioner had appeared before the committee on ethics and apologised for harassing the lawmaker with a promise never to do so again.
“He showed great remorse for his action and begged for forgiveness,” Mahmood said.
The House resolved to forgive the Commissioner due to his remorse and for the fact that the Commissioner was a former member of the House of Representatives.
It will be recalled that the House on Monday summoned the Commissioner for rural development to appear before its committee on ethics for harassing a lawmaker.
