Youth under the aegis of Arewa Youth Forum and Northern Youth Congress, have asked the Presidency and the Inspector General of Police, to tender a public apology over the attack on four northern governors, by political thugs opposed to the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
Hundreds of youth had last week hurled stones at Governors Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, Sule Lamido of Jigawa, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano and Murtala Nyako of Adamawa, at the airport in Port Harcourt.
Some vehicles were damaged in the process, as the placard-bearing crowd asked the visitors to leave the state.
Reacting on Monday, youth in the northern region demanded an urgent sack of the Rivers Police Commissioner for refusing to quell the assault on the governors. It also wants the Presidency to apologize for its silence over the condemnable act.
While regretting the incident, the coalition said such was capable of triggering a North-South conflict if not well handled.
In his remark, National President of the Arewa Youth Forum, Alhaji Gambo Gujungu, described the attack as the handiwork of Rivers politicians, who are bent at playing on the intelligence of the people.
He said that northern youth would not condone any further attack on leaders of the zone.
