Nigerian youngster, Taiwo Awoniyi, is expected to travel to England this week, to have a medical with Liverpool, as he closes in on a transfer to the Premier League club.
Due to this new development, the teenage striker is not likely to play in next month’s All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.
“He will leave this week for England to sign his contract with Liverpool and that is why he is not here training with us for the All Africa Games,” Nigeria U-23 spokesman, Timi Ebikagboro, said.
The 18-year-old is expected to put pen to paper on a long-term deal with the Reds, but will be loaned out to a club outside the UK.
AS Monaco, FC Porto and Red Bull Salzburg are already keen to take Awoniyi.
