The matriarch of the Awolowo family, Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, HID, is dead.
Mama, as she is fondly called, passed away on Saturday at 99.
She would have turned 100 on November 25.
HID died shortly after a meeting with her family members on Saturday.
She was said to have been actively involved in the planning of her 100th birthday.
HID was until her death the chairman of Nigeria’s foremost newspaper, Nigerian Tribune.
