Super Falcons forward, Asisat Oshoala, has said they redeemed themselves, as they won this year’s African Women Cup of Nations title.

Nigeria beat hosts Cameroon 1-0 in a keenly contested final on Saturday, to clinch a record 10th AWCON title.

In 2015, the Falcons were eliminated at an early stage at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, won no medal at the All African Games and failed to qualify for the 2016 Olympics for the second time.

Oshoala, who finished AWCON 2016 as top scorer with six goals, says they have made up for the last 12 months.

“I’m really very excited about this. It is like a historic moment. I’m happy to part of this history for my country,” Oshoala told media.

“It is not easy getting to the top and the most important thing is not all about getting to the top but how you maintain it. It shows we are leading in Africa for now.

“The All Africans Games said a lot about Nigeria. We had the opportunity redeeming our image and showed that we are the still champions in Africa. I think we have to take it one game at a time.

“At the minute, let’s finish our celebration and then we face the World Cup in the next few years.”
