Avoid areas with security challenges – NYSC DG tells corps members

The Director-General of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has warned corps members against improper behaviour and misconduct during their one year national assignment in the country.

Gen. Ibrahim gave this warning during a working visit to the 2019 batch ‘B’ stream one, orientation camp in Okada, Edo State.

He informed the corps members on the need to uphold dignity in all round especially as it relates to the female corps members who he said, should avoid any act capable of bringing their womanhood to disrepute.

“You must not do anything you can not defend in public or what you should be ashamed of, we will not condole any act of indiscipline or shameful behavior”

“I don’t want anyone of you to give bribe, whether in kind or cash to anybody in any attempt to influence your posting. I’m appealing to you, please be guided by NYSC act and bye-laws, so that you will not run into problem during your service year.

The NYSC DG, encouraged corps member to embrace the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme which has been put in place to make corps members employers of labour and wealth creators. And warned against unauthorised journeys, which he said is the cause of numerous accidents involving corps members during the service year.

“Please don’t embark on unauthorised journeys. You have to be focused, disciplined and don’t make yourself available to kidnappers. Always inform your friends concerning your whereabout and be security conscious, wherever you are posted ensure you locate the nearest police station or army barracks and interact with them”

While assuring NYSC officials of improved staff welfare, the Director General emphasized the need to be disciplined in the discharge of their duties and uphold loyalty to the scheme and warned against extortion and other forms of gratification from corps members, noting that any official caught would be sanctioned appropriately.

Earlier, the DG, inspected camp facilities and promised to draw the attention of State Government in the areas that require their intervention.
