The National Union of Air Transport Employees, today, embarked on a massive protest in the four major airports in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt concerning the Federal Government’s concession of the airports to private investors.
According to the Nation, morning operations at the major airports was put on hold as the aggrieved workers took to the airport roads, expressing their displeasure as they marched with placards from the tollgate to other parts of the airport.
The placards had inscriptions like, “Sirika our airports are not for sale.
“Airport concessions will lead to national security breaches”
“Airport concession is economic terrorism”
The workers comprised the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and the National Union of Pensioners (NUP) .
This protest resulted from the statement made by the Minister of State, Aviation, Hadi Sirika, as he assured that the concession would follow a framework that would cater for the national interest.
The protest is said to be going on concurrently at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, Mallam Aminu Kano Airport, Kano and Port Harcourt Airport.
