No fewer than six persons died on Sunday in a fatal accident which occurred along the Enugu Onitsha Expressway, in Enugu State.

An eye witness told DailyPost that the accident involved a Mercedes trailer with registration number XC 288 ASB and a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number XA 725 AGW.

He said the trailer, while trying to avoid a pothole on the only functioning lane in the expressway, collided with the bus killing six persons instantly and leaving four others critically injured.

The Enugu state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident to DailyPost disclosed that “six persons have been confirmed dead, while four others were seriously injured, thus bringing the total number of casualties to ten in a ghastly motor accident that occurred on 14/4/13 along Enugu Onitsha expressway, near former toll gate at 9th Mile corner near Enugu”.

He added that the injured persons have been removed and taken to a nearby hospital for medical assistance.

The PPRO expressed worry over the increasing rate of accident on Nigerian roads, urging motorists to “observe and obey all traffic laws and regulation in order to stay alive”.
