Ahead of the anticipated Monday’s unveiling of the second runner up in the earlier primary election of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Yahaya Bello as the party’s replacement for its late standard bearer, Prince Audu Abubakar, officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force have taken over the APC National Secretariat in Wuse II, Abuja.
While visitors to the secretariat were directed to seek parking space elsewhere away from the immediate parking lot at the threshold of the APC office, private security men conducted mild search on passers-by. This was even as the police officers mounted road blocks and restricted both vehicular and human traffic.
Sources reasoned that the blockade and protocol may have been put in place to prevent any large scale protests as it was learnt that various interest groups supporting various interests from Kogi were planning a large scale demonstration for their candidates.
DAILY POST is aware that since after the November 21 election in Kogi State was declared inconclusive and the subsequent demise of Audu as APC candidate, various interests had been fronting different persons as possible replacement for the dead, who was already coasting home to victory with over 40,000 votes ahead of his closest rival. This has expectedly triggered controversies with the APC apparatchik.
Those jostling to step into late Audu’s shoes include his first son, Mohammed Audu; his erstwhile running mate, Hon. James Faleke who had already written to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the APC, asking to be declared Governor-Elect and the second runner up in the primary that produced Audu as the party’s candidate, Yahaya Bello.
