An attempt to burn down the Rivers State PDP Secretariat in the early hours of Friday was foiled.
Eyewitnesses said the hoodlums poured fuel and threw some tires into the hall on the ground floor of the secretariat.
The fire was, however, put off by the people who were around the scene.
It was equally gathered that the security operatives, who were on night duty have been taken away by police officers for questioning.
The state Chairman of the Party, Felix Obuah said the attempt to burn the secretariat was an action of desperate politicians, who were bent on causing havoc in the party.
Obuah also alleged that the intention of the perpetrators was to do everything possible to stop the party congress holding this Saturday.
In the meantime, police officers have been drafted to the scene to provide security.
