Former vice-president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has hailed the visit of US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, to the country.
Tillerson met with President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday and discussed several crucial issues, including the 2019 elections and the abduction of school girls from Chibok and Dapchi.
“I welcome US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to Nigeria. Our people share the same values of free trade, education, democracy and security for all.
“Nigerians deserve a more secure future. Nigeria and the US must do more to combat extremism and terror. Our partnership with the US should be built on more cooperation.
“It is good to see US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Nigeria,” Atiku tweeted.
Speaking after the meeting, Tillerson said the US would assist Nigeria with latest security equipment and intelligence sharing in its efforts toward the safe return of the abducted Dapchi schoolgirls.
According to him, the US government will also offer special training for security personnel to enable them engage in special operations towards the rescue the girls as well as the remaining Chibok schoolgirls in captivity.
