Atiku mourns ex-president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ikedife

Former Vice-President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has mourned the death of Dr. Dozie Ikedife, an ex-leader, pan-Igbo cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

He expressed his grief on Wednesday in a post shared via his Twitter account.

Reacting, Atiku wrote: “On behalf of my family, I mourn the loss of Dr Dozie Ikedife, a former President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo.

“He was a true patriot who worked for a united, democratic and fair Nigeria. May he rest in peace.”

Ikedife, held the traditional title of Ikuku Ebu Nkpu, which was awarded to him by 14 communities in Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Ekwusigo local government areas of Anambra State.

He was also a holder of an honorary chieftaincy title of Ikenga Nnewi and Odezuligbo Umueje. Ikedife was an obstetrician, gynaecologist and researcher of repute.

He held a Bachelor of Science degree obtained from the university of London in 1958, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, (MBBS), University Glasgow, Scotland, 1959 and a diploma in obstetrical, Royal College Ob-Gyn.

He was a onetime President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a presidential liason officer (1979-1983), a delegate to the Centenary Conference of Nigeria in 2014 and the chair of many Igbo groups.
