Athletic Bilbao have won this year’s Spanish Super Cup, after they drew 1-1 with Barcelona on Monday.

The Baque side thrashed Luis Enrique’s men 4-0 at San Mames, thanks to Aritz Aduriz’s hat-trick and were favourites to clinch the trophy ahead of the second leg.

Barcelona failed to break through a resolute Athletic team and tempers boiled over, with both sides reduced to 10 men. Gerard Pique was sent off for assaulting an assistant referee, while Kike Sola received his marching orders five minutes after coming on.

Lionel Messi scored in the second half, after a typical Barca move, but Aduriz who was lucky to still be on the pitch, pounced again to level scores. .
