ASUU strike: NEC meets Friday on next line of action

The ​leadership of the ​Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will ​meet again ​on Friday​.

The National Executive Council​, NEC, ​meeting ​will review the industrial action and decide on the next step. Branches ​are expected to make submissions by giving their respective postions on meetings held Wednesday across the country.

​B​ranch chairmen ​are expected to arrive in Abuja on Thursday‎​.

​ASUU NEC, it was gathered, will make an announcement late Friday or Saturday.​

The union went on strike on August 13 to protest against poor welfare and poor funding of universities​.

​Meanwhile, ASUU, has accused the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, of engaging in cheap blackmail over the ongoing strike.

​​This accusation was made by the President of the union, Prof, Biodun Ogunyemi, in a bulletin on the strike, where he asked members of the union to disregard the comment by the minister that the strike was illegal.

Ogunyemi said, “Our national struggle to revitalise the Nigerian university system is comprehensive and total. Remain resolute and steadfast as victory is certain.”
