The meeting between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government, has once again ended in a stalemate.

Governor Gabriel Suswam announced at the end of the closed-door meeting which lasted for about three hours, that N100billion will be disbursed by September 1, to tackle infrastructure deficit in the country’s universities.

The FG also approved N30billion which will go the university council, as against the initial N92billion which ASUU demanded to resolve the issue of earned allowances.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, told media men that the money is meant to clear off the backlog, but would need to verify ASUU’s claims.

The president of ASUU, Professor Nasir Faggae, however made it clear that the FG’s intervention, is like renegotiating the 2009 agreement, which the Union will not accept.
