ASUU strike: Atiku pleads with union to suspend action

Former Vice President, VP, Atiku Abubakar has appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to suspend its strike action.

He urged the union to negotiate with the government even as he expressed concern over the students who would be out of school due to the ongoing strike.

Recall that the academic body had on Monday threatened to embark on a one week warning strike http://dailypost.ng/2016/11/14 /asuu-embark-strike-wednesday/ over the failure of the Federal Government to fulfill an agreement reached in 2013. The strike has since commenced.

Speaking during his 70th birthday celebration in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, Atiku said, “My call to ASUU is for the sake of the education of our children. The decision to shelve the strike will be in their favour.

“I call on them to suspend their strike action and continue negotiations because I believe at the end of the day an amicable resolution of the issues in contention would be reached.

“The most important thing is to think of. the children not going to school.”
