The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Friday urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to extend the closing day for the collection of Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs.

ASUU explained that its appeal was to enable students collect their PVCs and parcipate in the upcoming general elections.

In a series of tweets, the union urged INEC to grant students permission to collect their PVCs upon presentation of a valid identity card.

ASUU wrote: “Dear @inecnigeria, the union wishes to make an appeal on behalf of the students of Nigerian universities, that they be given an extension to enable them collect their PVCs upon presentation of a valid student identity card.”

The union also warned that it may re-embark on its industrial action if government fails to honour the agreement reached.

“Before you un-follow, remember that this is a suspension not an outright call-off.

” If government reneges on our memorandum of agreement, @ASUUNGR will be embark on another industrial action with full force. This is just a friendly reminder”, ASUU tweeted.
