ASUP strike: Why we did not participate – Mubi chapter

Mr Martins Bunu, the Chairman of Mubi Chapter of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), says his members did not participate in the last warning strike because of the order of Industrial Court.

The ASUP embarked on one-week warning strike across the country last week.

Bunu, at a news conference in Yola on Tuesday, dismissed some publications in some national dailies that the chapter boycotted the strike on the instruction of the union national president.

He described the publications as figments of imagination of the writers.

“The chapter did not participate in the recent warning strike because of the Industrial Court’s injunction that restrained any member from engaging in any industrial action pending the determination of the suit.

“Our chapter is currently in court over the recent union branch election.

“Our attention was drawn to a publication in some national dailies quoting Mr Martins Bunu, Chairman, ASUP, Mubi Chapter, as saying that the National President of the union support us to boycott the recent one-week warning strike declared by the national body.

“We describe this publication as a ruse and figment of the imagination of the writer.

“For the sake of emphasis, the national president has not instructed ASUP Mubi Chapter not to embark on the warning strike and he is not in unison with our current stance on the strike,” Bunu said.

He affirmed the loyalty of the Mubi Chapter to the national body and also its solidarity with the recent warning strike. (NAN)
