The Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has pointed out that the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, is justified.

He made the statement on his Twitter handle in response to the indefinite strike embarked upon by the union recently.

Senator Sani said, “The strike embarked upon by the polytechnic lecturers under ASUP is justified.”

He further explained that the demands put in place by the lecturers are reasonable, adding that persistent strikes in the country are caused by breaches of agreements met between the government and the unions.

“The demands of the lecturers are reasonable and rational. Incessant strikes results from incessant breaches,” he said.

The Senator called on the Nigerian government to respect and honour agreements between it and labour unions.

“The Federal Government should honour the agreement reached,” he stressed.

Recall that ASUP embarked on an indefinite strike Wednesday due to Nigerian government’s inability to meet set of agreements between the two parties.

It also accused the Federal Government and the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu of being insensitive to their plight.
