The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has suspended its decision to embark on an indefinite strike.
ASUP, therefore, urged its members to resume lectures today.
ASUP said the decision was taken after a meeting with the Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and members of the House of Representatives Committee on Education on Tuesday.
Public Relations Officer of ASUP, Mr. Clement Chirman, said that the union decided to shelve the proposed industrial action because the meeting with stakeholders in the education sector was fruitful.
He called on the polytechnic lecturers to continue performing their lawful duties as the union and government continue to dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues.
The Chairman added that the Education Minister ordered the immediate withdrawal of the circular suspending the controversial CONTISS 15 and restoration of union activities in the Federal Polytechnic, Oko and the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.
