An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Abayomi Shogunle, has claimed that the #EndSARS campaign is “a scam”.

He stated this on Twitter, while responding to a tweet from one Roman Greenspan, who wrote: “I’m not Nigerian but I am with you guys to #EndSARS @CNNAfrica @BBCAfrica @AljAzeera. Police brutality is real in Nigeria. I saw it myself”

Shogunle quoted the tweet with a link to a report from USA Today, that revealed a scathing Justice Department investigation.

The investigation concluded that the Chicago Police Department is beset by widespread racial bias, excessive use of force, poor training and feckless oversight of officers accused of misconduct.

Shogunle then wrote: “Don’t fall for #EndSARS scam 419.

“Why not use same energy to end the real police brutality & high controversial police killings in your country?

“Your very Chicago has one of the worst police brutality records in USA reference Department of Justice Report.”

Nigerians have resumed a social media drive aimed at forcing the President Buhari administration, to take immediate steps to contain rising cases of brutality linked to the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The latest crusade began on Saturday and jumped to number one on Nigerian Twitter trends by Sunday morning.
