Chuba Akpom scored a hat-trick, as Arsenal began pre-season preparations with a comprehensive 4-0 thrashing of a selected Singapore side.
Manager, Arsene Wenger left out nine of his regular starters, but names like Jack Wilshere, Per Mertesacker, Mathieu Debuchy, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Francis Coquelin started the match.
But it was Chuba Akpom who put the Gunners ahead in the first half, as they completely dominated their hosts. Wilshere doubled their advantage from the penalty spot, before Akpom also did the same few minutes later to make it 3-0.
Akpom connected with Hector Bellerin’s cross to make it 4-0 in the 79th minute.
Wenger, speaking after the match, praised the brave display of their opponents.
“The Singapore Select XI were electric in the first half – I don’t know what they had for lunch,” he joked.
