Arsenal send Manchester United £20million bid for Wayne Rooney

Arsenal have formally sent in a £20million bid for Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney.

The Gunners are in the market for a world class forward this summer and it is believed that Arsene Wenger is keen on the England international, who reportedly handed in a transfer request before the 2012/2013 season ended.

Jose Mourinho is also keen to take Rooney, 27, to Stamford Bridge, but it is Arsenal who have made the first move to land the striker.

New United manager David Moyes, will meet his former protege and his agents this week, to discuss his future at Old Trafford, before deciding whether to sell or keep the unsettled player.

Rooney has two years left on his £250,000-a-week deal and is ready to end his nine-year stay at the club.
