Arsenal: Ramsey gets new contract after Unai Emery’s intervention

Arsenal midfielder, Aaron Ramsey has received a new contract offer from the club after manager, Unai Emery informed the club’s board that he wanted to build his side around the talented Welshman.

DAILY POST reported that Emery had told Arsenal chiefs that he plans to build his team around midfielder, Aaron Ramsey and striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Times, UK, reports that Arsenal have reacted to Emery’s instructions and offered Ramsey a five-year deal which includes a significant wage increase.

According to the newspaper, the Gunners are desperate to avoid a repeat of playmaker, Mesut Ozil holding the club to ransom and forward, Alexis Sanchez exiting to join rival, Manchester United.

Ozil was handed a massive pay rise to ensure he signed a new contract and the German’s new wages has caused friction among the first-team stars, while Sanchez forced a move to United in January and the North London club were powerless to stop the Chilean, who had just six months left on his deal.

Meanwhile, Ramsey has so far turned down every offer from Arsenal, but on Tuesday he hinted he wants to stay at the club after the appointment of Emery.

Speaking from America where Ramsey is on international duty with Wales, the midfielder told reporters that he wants to stay at the North London club after the change in management.

“Of course,” Ramsey responded when asked he was excited to work with Emery.

“I haven’t spoken to him at all yet, but I think it’s an exciting time for the club. I can’t wait to get back there now.”
