Arsenal have called off a £92million deal for Thomas Lemar and will keep Alexis Sanchez at the club.
According to the UK Guardian, the Gunners accepted City’s second bid of £55m plus £5m in add-ons on Thursday, but the deal could only be ratified if Arsene Wenger brought in a new attacking player.
Monaco’s Lemar was one of the replacements targeted, while the other was Paris Saint-Germain’s Julian Draxler.
Arsenal initially agreed to pay the £92m Monaco demanded for the 21-year-old, but there appears to be insufficient time for them to agree a package with Lemar, who is in the France squad for this evening’s game against Holland.
This means that Sanchez, who was clearly desperate to leave the Emirates, will now have to stay put for the last year of his contract.
