Arsenal have been dumped out of the UEFA Champions League, despite defeating Monaco 2-0 in France.
The Gunners had a tough job to do in the second leg, after they lost 3-1 at the Emirates. Credit to Arsene Wenger’s men, from the blast of the referee’s whistle, they set out to redeem themselves.
Olivier Giroud opened the scoring with a neat flick, after his initial shot was blocked by the goalkeeper. Alexis Sanchez went down in the area and the referee refused to award him a penalty. Instead he showed him a yellow card for diving.
Substitute Aaron Ramsey gave the Premier League side hope with a low shot to make it 2-0, before Giroud’s header was saved at point-blank range.
It was little too late, as Wenger’s men depart in the round of 16 again.
In the other match of the day, Atletico Madrid qualified after beating Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 on penalties, after the tie ended 1-1 on aggregate.
