The Premier League has confirmed that Chelsea’s double over Arsenal this season, will not be considered as a tie-breaker, if both teams cannot be seperated by points and goal difference.
Arsenal whitewashed Wigan Athletic 4-1 on Tuesday, to move up to 70 points with a goal difference of +34. The Gunners will travel to Newcastle on the last day of the season and if they win 2-1 while Chelsea draw 0-0 with Everton at Stamford Bridge, both teams will be tied on 73 points and +35.
The London rivals will then have to play a one-off game at a neutral venue, probably Wembley, to determine who ends up in third place and which team will have to play Champions League qualifiers.
