Arsenal defeat Everton to win Barclays Asia Trophy

Arsenal rounded off their tour of Singapore, with a convincing 3-1 win over fellow Premier League team Everton, to win the Barclays Asia Trophy.

The Gunners had beaten a selected Singapore XI 4-0 with largely a second-string side, but on Saturday, Arsene Wenger was able to call on most of his first teamers.

Theo Walcott gave Arsenal the lead, darting onto Santi Cazorla’s exquisite chip over the top. Cazorla doubled the lead in the second half, slotting home after turning James McCarthy all over the place.

Mesut Ozil, who had another quietly effective game, latched onto another Cazorla through ball to make it 3-0, before Ross Barkley grabbed a late consolation.

Wenger’s men will now have a full week to prepare for the Emirates Cup that kicks off July 25.
