A Port Harcourt High Court has dismissed a suit seeking to prevent the Department of State Services from arresting 20 members of the Peoples Democratic Party from Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The lawsuit was filed by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Chief Ibibia Walter and nineteen other PDP members from Okirika.

The PDP members initiated the lawsuit in the build-up to the last rerun election on 19th of March.

The plaintiff had also asked the court to award the sum of one million naira as damages against the respondent for alleged violation of their fundamental human rights.

But in his ruling on Tuesday, Justice S.C Amadi dismissed the suit for lack of merit, adding that the plaintiff did not show any cause why the DSS would have them arrested.

After the court hearing, counsel to both parties declined to speak to newsmen on the development.
