Arrest northern youths, Biafra agitators – Labour Party tells Police

Labour Party (LP) has urged the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris to arrest and prosecute leaders and sponsors of Arewa youths who issued ultimatum to Igbo people to vacate the North within three months.

The party said the Arewa youths had put lives of northerners living in the southern parts of the country at risk and must be punished for their utterances.

National Chairman of LP, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, in a chat with newsmen, claimed that since the leaders of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other pro-Biafra sponsors were also calling for violence in the country, they should face the wrath of the law for treason.

His words: “Since the IPOB and the so call northern youths did not witness the civil war, their sponsors who are mostly elites are confusing them to put the country into trouble. Unfortunately we have a government that is lacklustre and a National Assembly playing politics with the stability of the country.

“We condemn the Arewa youths call for some people to leave the part of the country and the later also wanting to divide the country. We urged the Inspector General of Police to swing on into action by arresting and prosecuting those fanning the ember of discord in the country.”

“This divisiveness must stop as it will do no good to anyone,” Abdulsalam warned.

Meanwhile, the Northern Coalition that called for eviction of Igbos from the region, has urged the federal government to initiate the process for a peaceful referendum to allow Ndigbo leave Nigeria.
