The Nigerian Army has reiterated the need for synergy between the military, religious and traditional leaders in its effort to bring to an end the activities of insurgents, particularly Boko Haram.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division of the Nigerian Army Headquarters Kaduna, Major General Adeniyi Oyebade, stated this yesterday in Kaduna during a meeting held with leaders of the Jamatul Nasril Islam (JNI), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) from Igabi, Kaduna North and South local government areas as well as traditional rulers from Kawo District where security issues and the way forward were discussed.
The GOC said he called for the meeting to intimate them on the significant gains the military was making to flush out Boko Haram and the need for all stakeholders to be partners in progress towards ending insurgency in the country.
“We must keep our eyes open and our ears to the ground, mobilize our community to ensure that they report anything unusual or any suspected person or group of persons within your locality,” he said, adding that the call became necessary because with the onslaught on the sect, they are now on the run, looking for any possible hideout, hence the need for vigilance in their respective communities and organizations.
He reiterated that Boko Haram would be a thing of the past before the end of the year, stressing that there was the need for relevant information from the public that would help achieve such feat.
General Oyebade disclosed that several arrests had been made within the North West region while several stolen cattle have equally been recovered.
He therefore called on religious leaders to shun all forms of hateful preaching either in the church or Mosque, while stressing on the need for peaceful coexistence, effective civil military relationship and intelligence gathering.
The District Head of Kawo, Alhaji Jibrin Mohammed Magaji, who led other traditional rulers assured the GOC of their readiness to give necessary support to the military to rid the area of all forms of insurgency.
Also speaking, the Chairman JNI Kaduna North, Alhaji Abubakar Musa Abubakar and Pastor Bernard Nzekwe from CAN equally pledged their support in the fight against activities of Boko Haram.
The GOC in his closing remarks thanked them for honouring his invitation and assured them to look into salient issues raised by all the
speakers and address them accordingly.
