Army needs spiritual support to finish Boko Haram war – Bishop Oliver Dashe

Most Rev. Oliver Dashe, the Catholic Bishop of Maiduguri Diocese on Sunday urged Nigerians to offer prayers to the military to consolidate its successes in the current war against Boko Haram insurgents in the North East.

Dashe stated this at the inauguration of Patrons and Grand Patrons at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Catholic Church at the Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.

He said although the military had recorded success in the operations, it needed spiritual help to crush the insurgents finally.

Dashe said, however, that the military must get engaged in constant prayers as the Boko Haram war required more than physical fighting.

“We are in the world that is full of evil forces.Intact Boko Hararm is an evil force that we are facing in the North East.

“We know that the military is giving its best to see that it crush the demons,” he said.

Dashe added:” Since Boko Haram originated from Satan the war against it cannot be won by physical fighting alone.

“It also required spiritual dimension so we have decided to pray as a family for the total crushing of the Boko Haram and all other evil vices in the country.”

He also prayed for President Muhammadu Buhari, urging God to give him the wisdom to lead the country in the right direction.

Dashe said that the military had made great sacrifices in the anti-insurgency war resulting in many successes.

He specifically commended the GOC of the 7 division of the Nigerian Army ,Brig.-Gen. Victor Ezugwu for his commitment in leading his troops to success.

“The GOC has shown great commitment in winning the war against the Boko Haram because he is ready to stake his life for peace to reign.

“This is what we call service to humanity,” he said. Ezugwu was inaugurated as the Grand Patron of the church during the event.

Three officers of the division were also inaugurated as patron of the church.

They included Col. Justin Ifeanyi, Col. John Medugu and Col. Oke Ogbole.
