Armsgate: EFCC detains former Air Chief, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has detained the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, CAS, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu, in continuation of its probe of how funds budgeted for the procurement of arms under the immediate past administration of Goodluck Jonathan were expended.

On Wednesday, Amosu responded to a summon by the anti-graft agency alongside an unidentified retired Air Vice Marshal but were taken into custody for the commencement of the investigation, The Punch reports.

“The former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu, came yesterday in response to our invitation. We sent out invitation to them last week and they were expected to report with effect from Wednesday,” the newspaper was told.

The source added that the ex-CAS has been with the graft-fighting agency since he responded to the invitation.

The EFCC commenced interrogation of 18 retired and serving top officials of the Armed Forces in relation to the ongoing probe into arms procured under the previous administration on Wednesday.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on January 5, 2016 directed the EFCC to probe 18 top officers of the military comprising both retired and serving personnel as part of the ongoing efforts to unravel the $2.1 billion arms scandal.
