Arik has been down for years – Audu Maikori

Founder of Chocolate City Group and lawyer, Audu Maikori, has stated that Arik Air “had been shut down for years”.

He maintained that the events of the past days were just “official confirmation”.

On Tuesday, the United Labour Congress and the Nigeria Pilots and Engineers Union shut Arik Airlines’ offices, because of their inability to pay its workers for seven months.

Acting Chairman of the ULC, Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, told the News Agency of Nigeria: “We have shut down Arik Airlines operations due to non-payment of seven months salary and non- remittance of workers’ taxes to relevant agencies.

“The office will remain shut until the end of the year, unless the management reaches a compromise with our union on the anti-labour issues.

“We cannot continue to watch Arik Airlines’ management maltreating our members. Enough is enough.

“It is a pity that many intending passengers are stranded because of our action, but we have appealed to the management to look into our demand but to no avail.”

Maikori has now taken to his Twitter account, to say the airline had been out of reckoning for a while.

He wrote: “Arik had been shut down for years…this is just the official confirmation.”
