Croatia midfielder, Ivan Rakitic has sympathized with his Barcelona team-mate, Lionel Messi, after they beat his Argentina team 3-0 in their Group D clash on Thursday.
Rakitic rounded off scoring in the game, after Ante Rebic and Luka Modric put them 2-0 up.
Speaking after the match, he expressed optimism that Messi will still qualify for the next round with his country.
“I’m sad for Messi. I hope he somehow qualifies.
“I don’t think it was a surprise. We came to the World Cup to wrestle one of the best teams in the world and to win every game.
“Argentina were contenders to win the World Cup and we’re happy that we won against them. We’re also very happy to be on the top of the group,” Rakitic said.
Croatia take on Iceland in their final fixture, while Argentina face Nigeria.
