Croatia captain, Luka Modric, has said that Lionel Messi could not inspire his Argentina team to victory in their Group D clash on Thursday, because he didn’t get help from his team-mates.
“Messi is an amazing player, but he can’t do it all by himself.
“In football you have to have help. Though he’s big, big, he can’t do everything alone,” Modric said.
The South Americans are on the verge of exiting the 2018 World Cup at the group stages, following their 3-0 defeat to the Croats.
Modric scored from outside the box, while Ante Rebic and Ivan Rakitic also found the back of the net, as the Zlatko Dalic’s team booked their place in the last 16.
Croatia play Iceland next, while Argentina face Nigeria in their final group game.
