South American football power house, Argentina has recaptured its number one position in the monthly FIFA rankings released on Thursday, displacing Belgium, while Copa America champions, Chile rose to an all-time high to occupy the third place.
Having won three out of three of their 2018 World Cup qualifiers, Argentina returned to the top, five months after they were supplanted by Belgium.
The rankings saw Chile which was formally on fifth position moved to third place while another South America country, Colombia climbed from eighth to fourth and also Uruguay moving back into the top 10 having started their South American qualifiers strongly.
Defending European champions, Spain moved three steps backward to sixth position. Also on the down-sliding are world champions Germany, Brazil, Portugal and England.
